Its funny hearing them work on So Many Roads and Wave To The Wind. In my opinion So Many Roads is one of their best songs and Wave To The Wind is maybe the worse song they ever played live.

What a great thing to have this type of stuff on the Archive. Almost 30 years in the band was clearly still having fun. So Many Roads was such a beautiful song and it's really wonderful to hear them working through the arrangements.

My shit eating grin is starting to hurt!!! This is my favorite of all the Front St. sessions. The tongue-n-cheek banter coming from Phil and Jerry and the rest is too much! Garcia's quick wit is on full display throughout. So much fun! Chuck Berry, Bobby, and ketamine............!!??

SMR rehearsals
It is always cool to hear how these guys went thru the process of creating new tunes, then go on to listen to the debut and evolution of the song as it grows. There is also some neat banter here. Sound is decent.

a must dl for anyone...
that is interested in hearing the boys co-exist beyond just on stage in front of thousands of fans. You hear Bob stressing out about how is he gonna learn his part in So Many Rds by the next day (they played a show at Alameda the next night!) Jerry is a riot thru-out--his quick remarks are priceless--sharing his vision of where he envisions the tempo of this song to be, etc etc. Bobby always trying to sound like the musical genius at the end of every take. The most amazing part, though, is they more or less nail So Many Roads on the second take! Most bands rehearse tunes for the better part of 3 months before they take them on stage, the dead? one couple hour session the day before. This accounts for much of their trademark sloppiness throughout the years, but if nothing else, adds to their mystique and explains to some who don't know better, what the dead were all about.
For what it is, it is a 5 star download. you dont dl this for the music. you dl it for the banter.
